Produced by ON kids & family ( The little prince, Miraculous ) and Mediawan's What The Prod (Ashargin Poiré and Valérie Puech), the 2D art film is described as an "animated anthem to cinema", chronicling the prolific and celebrated film pioneer, playwright and novelist's extraordinary life. As Chomet, who is the screenwriter and director of the biopic, said when the project was announced:

“The whole work [of Marcel Pagnol] speaks to us in words that refer to all of us. I want to tell the story of him, what we know little or less about him, and try to understand and reveal the man behind his work. It is through the innocence of Marcel as a child that I have chosen to rewrite the deeply human and universal values of man, because I am convinced that our age needs to return to this poetry and language of humanity ”.

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the distribution rights for North America, Latin America, Scandinavia, the Middle East, Israel, India, Italy and worldwide airlines / ships at sea, in all languages.

The magnificent life of Marcel Pagnol  is currently in production, scheduled for 2024. The co-producers are Bibidul Prod. and Align, in collaboration with Nicolas Pagnol of Tenuta Pagnol.

Chomet's new film is based on the life of celebrated French author and director Marcel Pagnol.
