Netflix has chosen the cast of Pinocchio by Guillermo Del Toro


Netflix today announced the cast of Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro's next stop-motion animated film Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio.

New arrival gregory mann will play Pinocchio, with Ewan McGregor such as Cricket and David Bradley (Harry Potter franchise, Game of Thrones) like Geppetto. The other cast includes the Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton, Oscar winner Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, John Turturro (The Batman), Golden Globe winner Ron Perlman (Nightmare Alley), Tim Blake Nelson (Watchmen) to Burn Gorman (Enola Holmes).

Drawing on the classic tale of Carlo Collodi, this stop-motion musical follows the extraordinary journey of a wooden boy magically brought to life by the desire of a father. Set during the rise of fascism in Mussolini, del Toro's Italy Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio is a story of love and disobedience in which Pinocchio struggles to live up to his father's expectations.

The film is directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson (Fantastic Mr. Fox). Del Toro and Patrick McHale wrote the screenplay. The lyrics of the songs are by del Toro and Katz, with the music of Oscar winner Alexandre Desplat who will also write the soundtrack. Gris Grimly created the original design for the Pinocchio character. The puppets in the film were built by Mackinnon and Saunders (The Corpse Bride).

Pinocchio is produced by del Toro, Lisa Henson of The Jim Henson Company, Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico of ShadowMachine, as well as Gary Ungar of Exile Entertainment; is co-produced by Blanca Lista of The Jim Henson Company and Gris Grimly. Other credits include production supervisor Melanie Coombs, co-designers Guy Davis and Curt Enderle, animation supervisor Brian Hansen, puppet supervisor Georgina Hayns, director of photography Frank Passingham, art director Rob DeSue and editor by animatic Ken Schretzmann.

A lifelong passion project by del Toro, the film will debut in theaters and on Netflix. Principal shooting began last fall at ShadowMachine studio in Portland, Oregon, and production continued uninterrupted during the pandemic.
