Pompompurin is a good-natured Golden Retriever, introduced to the world by Sanrio in 1996. Born on a sunny day on April 16, he lives happily in a basket at the entrance of his owner-sister's house. In addition to his brown cap, which he never abandons, another distinctive trait of Pompompurin is his love for pudding made by his mother, which is also his favorite food.
This sweet little dog has a strange passion: collecting shoes. Not just his father's shoes or his mother's sandals, but every type of footwear he can find. Pompompurin loves to hide them, almost like a little secret treasure. Besides this, he spends a lot of time sleeping (he's practically a talent!), doing “purin aerobics” and spending happy moments with his best friends. He is a relaxed dog, who loves soft things and makes friends very easily.

The creation of Pompompurin is the result of an internal competition organized by Sanrio in 1996, with the aim of designing a new dog-themed character. Pompompurin's design won over everyone, proving to be the most popular and winning the competition. It was first introduced to the public in the July 1996 issue of Strawberry News magazine under the original name "Boku, Pudding", a name which was later changed to the current "Pompompurin". Already in 1997, his first year of presence in the Sanrio character ranking, he took first place.

Pompompurin has special relationships with some characters. He is very close to Macaroon, to the point that Hello Kitty points out that "he seems to have a soft spot for her." And, surprisingly, he has a crush on Snoopy, the famous dog from the Peanuts series.
