Sheridan has named ACR's best animation school outside the United States for the second consecutive year

For the second consecutive year, Sheridan College of Ontario has been named the No. 1 in the world in Career Review's 2020 International Ranking of Animation Schools outside the United States.

Animation Career Review interviewed members of 185 institutions and conducted its analysis evaluating academic reputation, selectivity to admission, program depth and breadth, value in relation to tuition and debt, and for the former time, employment data was considered.

Sheridan offers an Honors Degree in Animation, a four-year hands-on program that emphasizes classical principles of animation in a variety of forms, including digital 2D, 3D, and stop motion, as well as postgraduate certificates in computer animation, visual effects and animation of digital creatures. For over 50 years, animation has been a cornerstone of Sheridan's academic programming.

"We are incredibly honored to be recognized in this way," says Ronni Rosenberg, dean of Sheridan's faculty of animation, art and design. “Thanks to its stellar reputation, our animation program attracts the best talent from around the world. Our dedicated and qualified faculty brings tremendous industry experience to the classroom. And of course, our graduates continue to accomplish great things. "

Graduates from Sheridan's esteemed animation program went on to work with world-renowned studios, including Disney, Pixar, Nelvana and Guru. In February 2020, pupil Dean DeBlois (Animation '90), writer and director of the How to train your dragon trilogy, was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Animated Film category for the third and final installment of its series.

In 2019, student Sheridan Domee Shi (Bachelor of Animation '11) received the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film for her directorial debut, Beam, at the 91st Academy Awards. She became the fifth Sheridan graduate to win an Oscar.

"Our animation legacy is a long-standing pride for Sheridan," says Janet Morrison, President and Vice Chancellor. "Some of the most beloved characters on the big and small screen were created by our graduates."

Morrison was recently in Ireland to mark another major animation milestone in Sheridan. Graduates from Computer Animation or Digital Creature Animation Postgraduate Programs are eligible for advanced enrollment in the Master of Arts in 3D Animation program at the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT).
