Soul wins the 78th edition of the Golden Globe Awards

The 78th Golden Globe Awards took place Sunday night, with hosts Tina Fey in New York and Amy Poehler in Beverly Hills - returning to these illustrious tasks after doing them for three consecutive years in 2013, 2014 and 2015 - and the nominations radiant from all over the world.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association bestowed the award for the best animated film which was won by Soul from Disney Pixar by director Pete Docter, co-director Kemp Powers and producer Dana Murray. I aml has clashed with worthy competitors, including the Pixar film Onward.

This is the ninth time Pixar Animation Studios has secured the Golden Globe; starting with the very first win in the history of the category with Cars and most recently with Coco in 2018. With the Globes' strong correlation with Oscar wins for animated feature films, the same Pixar film has won both prestigious awards seven times.

Powers is the first black director to win a Golden Globe for the first time in the long history of awards, and the second black director to win for animation (after Peter Ramsey for Spider-Verse in 2019). He also served as AnimaHe is co-writer with Docter and Mike Jones.

Docter celebrates his third win in this category, with his shiny new award for joining the Golden Globes Up e Inside Out on the shelf. Docter and Murray accepted the honor on the video. Powers had recorded a speech that was played on a tablet given by Docter - he thanked the studio and the supportive families of the directors, saying of the winning film: "Our story is universal."

As previously announced, this year's special honors went to Jane Fonda (Cecil B. deMille Award) and Norman Lear (Carol Burnett Award). Satchel and Jackson Lee, sons of Spike Lee and tonya Lewis Lee, are the 2021 Golden Globe Ambassadors.

Anima also passed the live-action competition in the Best Original Score - Film category, which went to composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (also nominated for Deficiency) and jazz music consultant Jon Batiste.
