“80 Dreams for Traveling” (French original “Les Aventures de Carlos”) is a Franco-American animated series that debuted on Canal+ on November 13, 1992, and was then broadcast on TF1 in December 1993. The result of a collaboration between Saban International Paris and TF1, with the support of Canal+ and the CNC, this series stood out for its original and entertaining approach to storytelling.10

Synopsis

The series revolves around Carlos, based on the real-life figure of French singer and celebrity Carlos Dolto, and his parrot Oscar. Carlos lives on a tropical island with three adopted children. Lover of stories, he tells children about his adventures meeting world historical figures, despite the children's skepticism. With the help of Grandma Têtard, who lives on one of the island's beaches, Carlos and the children travel through time to prove the truth of his stories. In times of danger, Carlos has the ability to transform into an ox.

After its premiere in France, the series aired in the United States in the early 90s as part of Bohbot Entertainment's “Amazin' Adventures” package.

In 1994, a video game based on the series was released, developed by Microïds for the Atari ST, Amiga and MS-DOS. The platform game allowed you to immerse yourself even deeper into the universe of “80 Dreams for Traveling”.

Ownership and Availability

In 2001, the rights to the series were acquired by Disney as part of its purchase of Fox Kids Worldwide, which also included Saban Entertainment. However, the series is not currently available on Disney+.

“80 Dreams of Traveling” remains a fascinating example of how animation can be used to combine education, history and entertainment in a format accessible to children and also appreciated by adults.
