Wacom and Mike Morris launch "Cartoon Crunch" mentoring miniseries

With a new school year upon us, Wacom has announced that it has a special surprise in store that encompasses all the excitement and possibilities of new tools, friends, lessons and challenges. With the help of Mike Morris, animation star and creator of the LightBox Animation Dance Party and Panelpalooza, the technical team kicks off the school year with the definitive animation assignment: Cartoon Crunch!

Cartoon Crunch is a reality-show miniseries about the process, pitfalls, and breakthroughs of cartoon making, all over the course of a week. Two teams of four animation students will be selected who will be responsible for creating an animated short with the guidance of professional mentors in history, set design and animation (from a distance, of course).

The chosen teams will be challenged to create a cartoon that describes what creative collaborations will look like in the future. The comic should be 45 seconds or less. Although studio-level sound is not expected, participants are encouraged to push their skills to the limit. Each participating animator student will receive a Wacom One and a Wacom sponsored salary of $ 1.500.

Cartoon Crunch accepts applications from college students and seniors in the United States, Canada and Latin America (excluding Venezuela) looking for a great chance for Toon Town. The deadline was extended to Aug 21 at 23:59 pm PST to allow even more students to participate in this extraordinary back-to-school activity. For those whose animation skills aren't ready for prime time yet or are just thrilled to tune in, Wacom and Morris will release a five-part miniseries over the course of five days, with live watch parties every day. After each episode, a live Q&A session with the professional mentor featured in that day's episode will take questions from the chat and offer general production tips. And for the final celebration: a special Popcorn Premiere Party which will include a short panel with the Cartoon Crunch student animators and the debut of their final animations!

Release dates for the TBA miniseries via the Wacom America blog.
