Gundam shin taiken 0087: Green Divers

Gundam shin taiken 0087: Green Divers, also known as Gundam Neo Experience 0087: Green Divers, is a 23-minute IMAX short film produced by Sunrise in 2001. Considered a spinoff of the Mobile Suit Z Gundam TV series, the film is screened exclusively on the three IMAX screens of the E-field Theater in Tokyo's Shibuya district.

The peculiarity of Gundan shin taiken 0087: Green Divers lies in the combination of traditional animation for the characters and 3D animation for the mobile suits and the setting. The work develops with the main action on the central screen, while radar images, scientific data and system readings appear on the two side screens, creating an immersive experience.

The character design is by Haruhiko Mikimoto, while the computer-animated mobile suits are based on the designs of Kazumi Fujita and Kunio Ōkawara. The plot follows the two brothers Asagi and Takuya during the final days of the Gryps War of Mobile Suit Z Gundam, as they find themselves in a civilian shuttle amidst a battle between the AEUG factions and the Titans.

The short film focuses on the dangerous re-entry of the boys through the Earth's atmosphere, with the providential help of a white and purple Zeta Gundam, piloted by a mysterious individual who appears to be Amuro Ray.

Gundam shin taiken 0087: Green Divers offers fans of the Gundam saga a unique and engaging visual experience, thanks to IMAX technology and the combination of different animation techniques. A real gift for lovers of the Gundam universe and Japanese animation.
