Little Red Riding Hood is one of the most popular European fairy tales in the world, of which there are numerous variations. The best known written versions are that of Charles Perrault (with the title Le Petit Chaperon Rouge) of 1697 and that of the Brothers Grimm (Rotkäppchen) of 1857.

Little Red Riding Hood is a little girl who has to bring a basket of food to her sick grandmother. In the woods he meets a wolf who deceives himself to reveal where his grandmother lives. The wolf arrives before her at the cottage, introduces herself to her grandmother as the granddaughter, lets herself be opened and devours her. Little Red Riding Hood finds him in bed disguised as a grandmother and is in turn devoured.
Charles Perrault's version [edit | edit wikitext]
The oldest written version of the fairy tale is Le Petit Chaperon Rouge, which appeared in Charles Perrault's collection of fairy tales The Tales of Mother the Goose in 1697. [1] [2] Perrault's version is much shorter than the later Grimm version and it does not contain a happy ending. Perrault concludes the narrative with an explicit explanation of the moral:
