Singer Ricky Wilson, Derry Girls' Dylan Llewellyn joins' Dodo '

A new original comic series based on the animated school, Dodo, narrated by singer-songwriter Ricky Wilson and starring Dylan Llewellyn (Derry Girls) as the lead character's voice, will air on Sky Kids next month (June 14). The 20-episode British comic animation, produced by BAFTA-winning Wildseed Studios, is a humorous, understandable and moving portrayal of everyday school life in the UK, as experienced by XNUMX-year-old Joe Connolly.

"Joe's high school dramas will be familiar to anyone who has ever experienced the highs, lows and anxieties of first year in the 'big school.' However, with its amazing animated fantasies and disastrous scenarios, they are also extraordinarily fun and surprising. . We know our audiences will love this show, "said Estelle Hughes, Commissioning Editor of Sky Kids.

Narrated by the Kaiser Chiefs frontman, The Voice UK Judge and former art teacher Wilson, the series follows Joe (Llewellyn) as he faces the drama and pitfalls of his freshman year in high school. With new situations and awkwardness around every corner, small events mean big drama for Joe as he tries to fit in, make new friends, girlfriends, and even lose his school pants. But Joe has Frisbo best friends, Pete and Lily by his side, helping him realize that any challenge isn't really the end of the world as he triumphs over adversity and survives another day of school.

Comedian Mark Watson voices the character of Joe's Dad and Connor Swindells (Sex education) plays Jamie, Joe's older brother, with Ellie Kendrick (Game of Thrones, Anne Frank's diary), Kadiff Kirwan (Chewing gum, Lots of fleas) and Frankie Fox (Small ax, Blinded by the light) giving voice to Joe's friends Lily, Pete and Frisbo.

The series is based on award-winning films and YouTube hits It's not the end of the world, by British series creator and director Jack Bennett, which he made while still in his senior year at university, where he was discovered by Wildseed. In line with their mission to unearth new talent, Dodo is Bennett's first television series but, according to Wildseed creative director Jesse Cleverly, "I'm sure it will be the first of many".

Wildseed CEO Miles Bullough added: "Dodo presents a fun, humane and above all compassionate image of what it is like to be 11, discovering how disconcerting the world can be. As a result, this warm and life-affirming show will resonate with anyone - whether still in school or looking back on their school days - who has experienced the intensity of this stage of life. "

Dodo is produced by Helen Stern (The fantastic world of chewing gum) with the support of Ben Ward (Horrible stories) on the script and with executive guidance provided by Sarah Mattingley, Wildseed's Head of Kids and Animation. The series was commissioned by Lucy Murphy, Director of Kids Content at Sky UK & Ireland, and Exec Produced for Sky by Estelle Hughes, Commissioning Editor, Sky Kids.
