Technicolor folds the Mill film into Mr. X in response to the COVID-19 crisis

Technicolor has announced the merger of Mr. X and Mill Film, under the name of Mr. X. The movement brings together the experience and creativity of both brands into a stronger united entity. Mr. X now becomes a visual effects studio spanning four time zones, including Canada, the United States, Australia and India.

Laura Fitzpatrick, MD of Mill Film, will take on the position of CEO at Montreal-based Mr. X with Dennis Berardi, founder of Mr. X, taking on the role of creative director for the studio.

"As the entertainment landscape has continued to evolve, both studios naturally overlap in spaces," said Berardi. "The merger of the two brands allows us to create the perfect team for each client."

The merger is a direct and necessary response to the current COVID-19 crisis. The recently combined and expanded studio will serve customers through features and episodes.

With 20 years in business, Mr. X has won numerous awards, including the VES and Canadian Screen Awards, as well as BAFTA, Satellite and Critics Choice Award nominations. Mr. X has established a series of collaborations with important directors such as Guillermo Del Toro and Paul WS Anderson. The studio is known for bringing the vision of filmmakers to life on all projects, with credits including Oscar winners. The shape of the water (Fox Searchlight) e Roma (Netflix) and blockbusters Shazam! (Warner Bros.)

Mill Film> has made legacy projects such as Gladiator (Universal), which won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in 2001, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Warner Bros.), newer versions such as Maleficent: lover of evil (Disney) and Dora and the lost city of gold (Supreme).

"Our goal is to partner with clients to realize their ideas and exceed visual expectations," said Fitzpatrick. "With our united brand we are able to bring global expertise in all creative areas: original design and art direction, on-set supervision, environment creation, FX simulations, creature and character work."

The combined legacy of both studios serves as the foundation for Mr. X's advancement. The studio's broadening talent pool paves the way for the team to share knowledge and best practices for carrying out projects of all genres, formats and media.

All facilities remain open in Toronto, Montreal, Los Angeles, Adelaide and Bangalore. The merger takes effect immediately, with a transition period for employees. This does not affect The Mill, which continues to function as a separate entity.
