Anime legend Doc "Satoshi Kon, the illusionist" world premiere in Cannes

The passionate tribute of the multi-genre director Pascal-Alex Vincent to one of the great masters of animation, Satoshi Kon, the illusionist, will officially make its world premiere as part of the official selection of Cannes Classics, the annual celebration of the illustrious festival of restored prints and film history.

Ten years after the death of manga-ka and animation director Satoshi Kon (Paprika, The godparents of Tokyo, Actress of the millennium, Perfect blue), his loved ones and collaborators record their memories, anecdotes and insights in this long-awaited documentary. Vincenzo (give me your hand, Miwa: In search of the black lizard) sought out Kon's contemporaries and the next-generation directors he inspired in Japan, France, the United Kingdom and the United States to reflect on his subject's artistic legacy. Respondents include directors Mamoru Hosoda, Darren Aronofsky, Jérémy Clapin, Mamoru Oshii and many others.

The Festival de Cannes 2021 will be held from 6 to 17 July (festival-cannes.com/en). See the full Cannes Classics program here.
