Plot :
The Little Mermaid lives at the bottom of the sea with her widowed father the Sea King, her grandmother, and five older sisters. At fifteen, according to the mermaid tradition, she is allowed to swim to the surface to look at the world above the sea. The Little Mermaid thus has the opportunity to see a ship commanded by a beautiful prince, whom she falls in love with ...
The ship is hit by a terrible storm, but the Little Mermaid manages to save the prince and bring him to safety on a beach near a temple; the prince has lost consciousness and has no way of seeing her.
The Little Mermaid spends the following days sighing and dreaming of the prince, and wishing she had a soul and an eternal life like human beings; her siren's destiny, in fact, is to dissolve into sea foam.
