The Quirino Awards 2021 announces the 40 semifinalists of animation

Il Quirino Awards of Ibero-American animation announced the finalist works for the fourth edition, with the awards ceremony scheduled for May 29 in the city of Tenerife, La Laguna (Unesco world heritage site). Chosen from 265 entries, 40 works from nine countries are in the running for the finalist places, which will be selected by an international jury. The selections of the finalists in nine categories will be announced on March 17 at the Casa de América in Madrid.

Spain tops the list of countries with the most contenders (22), followed by Argentina (13), Chile (9), Mexico (8) and Colombia (7). Among the candidates there are also works from Brazil, Portugal, Costa Rica and, for the first time, the Dominican Republic. The feature film Nahuel and the Magic Book (Nahuel and the Magic Book), the second season of Small series - both from Chile - and the Spanish short film Homeless Home (Homeless house) have the highest number of nominations, with four each. Mexico, Spain and Argentina lead the Feature Films, Short Films and Commissioned Films categories respectively.

The jury composed of Jean François Tosti (TAT productions, France), Joana Toste (animator and director, Portugal), Paula Taborda (Planeta Junior, Brazil) and Sergio Jiménez (Pinkman.TV, Spain) will choose the three finalist works in each category . A committee composed of Agnieszka Kowalewska-Skowron, Loïc Portier, Sydney Padua, Paco Rodríguez and Ylka Tapia was in charge of selecting the selected works.

In addition to the awards ceremony, the Quirino will once again bring together animation professionals at the Ibero-American co-production and Business Forum, which will take place from 27 to 29 May in La Laguna. In 2020, this industry activity brought together representatives from around 19 companies from 800 countries - including production companies, sales agencies, TV channels and distributors - who held more than 2 BXNUMXB meetings. Registration to participate in the forum will open in the coming weeks on the Quirino Awards website.

With the aim of offering a historical record of awards, the organization launched a search engine for finalist and awarded works in the different categories Quirino in its three editions. The search can be made from the "Palmares" tab of the Quirino Awards website using different filters such as edition, country or category.
