UWE Bristol, NFTS projects win RTS Student Awards for animation

The Royal Television Society (RTS), Britain's leading forum for television and related media, has announced the winners of the National RTS Student Television Awards 2021, sponsored by Kinetic Content. The winners were crowned during a virtual ceremony held this afternoon on the RTS website, hosted by award-winning broadcast presenter and radio host, Vick Hope.

For 2021, the National Film and Television School received the highest number of wins among the 17 British institutions nominated, taking home seven awards (including Postgraduate Animation), followed by the University of Salford with three. The inaugural Young Filmmaker Award went to Max Tobin, Ed Whyte, Joe Luk, Oli Thomas and Almir Datoo for their live-action drama I will despise you. The jury described the film as being impressively and ambitiously crafted, with the script a triumph.

The awards celebrate the best audiovisual work created by students from across the UK at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This year, students submitted an original film of their creation lasting up to 30 minutes, in categories that include Animation, Screenplay, Unscripted for undergraduate voices and Animation, Screenplay, Unscripted, News, Entertainment and Natural History for graduates. Today awards for craft skills were also presented to both undergraduate and postgraduate students, including Camerawork, Editing, Set Design, Sound and Writing.

Siobhan Greene, managing director, 110% Content and chair of the RTS Student Television Awards, said: "This year the juries had to make tough decisions, narrowing down a wide range of entries from across the UK; even more impressive as many have been produced under limited conditions due to COVID. It is with a real sense of pride that we recognize and celebrate the talent coming to the industry this afternoon. Our warmest congratulations to all winners. "
