Watch: Pwnisher Challenge "Alternate Realities" generates a montage of 100 renders

Nothing keeps the creative juices flowing and finely honed skills like the occasional animation challenge - and Clinton Jones' recently debuted editing of 3D / VFX artist's "Alternate Realities" challenge is certainly proof of that. The 11-minute piece combines 100 CG renders set in very different worlds, all built around the same walking animation. The result is a mesmerizing rapid-fire leap through a multiverse of artistic visions that will draw you in and hit the pause and rewind buttons more than once.

The Alternate Realities CG challenge took place over the past month, providing participating animators from around the world with Jones's core animation of a burdened figure struggling through a post-apocalyptic city, from which artists had to create an environment single. The challenge received contributions from 2.400 potential contributors and the first 100 renders were chosen for final editing. It took "six intense weeks of work, two full nights and an incredible community of artists to get to this point," Jones wrote in the release tweet.

The top five winners - Stephen Grimm, Klay Abele, Julienne Aldriv, Stefan Frank and Pierson Edwards - have received awards from Rokoko, Wacom, Quixel, PNY and Aftershokz.

The final montage presents a universe of unique landscapes, situations and styles, featuring all kinds of characters, from animals, androids and astronauts, to shamanic creatures, warriors, toys and Storm Troopers. Renderings also range from aesthetic range, from photoreal to cartoonish, including impressive hand-made stop-motion imitations, paper cutouts, and even Ghibli-style 2D animations.

The Alternate Realities montage features an original score by producer / composer Feverkin.

You can watch all 2.400 rendering proposals cut together and organized by theme (fantasy, video games, comics, etc.) here (duration: two hours and 45 minutes).
