Animafest presents the selection of the Grand Competition for the 50th Anniversary Fest

Out of 1.800 films presented from 91 countries around the world, World Festival of Animated Film - Animafest Zagreb has narrowed down the official selection for the Grand Competition - Short Film, Student Film Competition and Croatian Film Competition categories of the 2022 edition.

Animafest artistic director Daniel Šuljić, Margit Antauer and Vesna Meštrić formed the selection committee for the short film and the Croatian film, while Kata Gugić and Hrvoje Selec selected the Student Films.

Almost 900 films were submitted for the Grand Competition - Short Film category alone and 47 of them were selected to be presented at the festival. Out of 780 student submissions, 42 films were selected for the Student Film Competition, while the Croatian Film Competition will feature 18 films.

In the announcement, it was noted that "Animafest Zagreb strongly condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine". Although films created in Russia were not excluded from the program, the Festival Council decided not to credit Russia as a production country. "We support Russian artists whose films were selected for the competition and who publicly condemned the attack," the statement said.
