Night fisher

Night fisher tells the story of two high school students, Loren and Shane, who live on the island of Maui. When the couple becomes involved in a petty crime, their friendship may not survive the ordeal. Here is the official synopsis:

World-class prep school, SUVs, and a dream home on the heights: An island paradise was handed over to Loren Foster when he moved to Hawaii with his father six years ago. Now, with the end of high school around the corner, his best friend, Shane, has walked away. Rumors abound. Loren suspects that Shane left him for a new group of friends. Their friendship is tested when they get involved in a petty crime. Johnson has a naturalness in exploring these relationships that sets this drama apart. This debut novel is both an unsentimental portrait of that most embarrassing period between adolescence and young adulthood and that rarer thing: a mature depiction of immature lives. Its lush, yet unsentimental depiction of Maui creates an engaging and visceral sense of place.
