Anima goes to the 40th edition completely online

Anima, the Brussels Animation Film Festival, has announced that its 40th edition will take place as a fully digital program on its new Anima Online platform from February 12-21. Previously scheduled for a hybrid in-person and online event, the full schedule will be unveiled next Tuesday, January 26, at Anima's official press conference.

“You probably guessed it already, but we wanted to believe it until the end. It is with a heavy heart that the Festival had to give up the idea of a 40th edition in loco, due to the developments of the health crisis. But we are also very pleased to announce that the exceptional and very rich program will be available throughout Belgium on the new Anima Online platform, ”said the Anima team in a shared statement.

The festival has already announced some of its plans. The critically acclaimed feature film by Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart wolfwalkers will be the opening film of the 2021 event. In the spotlight on Korean animation, on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Belgian-Korean diplomatic relations, it will present a program of independent short films and three feature films (The Shaman Witch, Motel Rose e Beauty water). And, of course, a buffet of 169 artistic, inspiring and entertaining short film titles will be screened in the competition for the Oscar qualification.
