The Polish event “ANIMARKT Stop Motion forum” will be online

Poland's annual event ANIMARKT Stop Motion forum has decided to move its entire program online for 2020. For the past four years, representatives of the animation industry from around the world have gathered in Łódź every October to meet, establish new business relationships and compete for awards . The organizers say it was "a difficult decision", but are optimistic that the new format will facilitate meetings between the European animation industry and potential partners from around the world. ANIMARKT 2020 is scheduled for 6 10-October.

“After many hours of discussion and risk analysis, in the face of restrictions in place around the world, we have decided that the safest way to meet will be to prepare an online formula,” explained the organizer MOMAKIN.

The decision to move the Forum to the Internet was inspired by observations of solutions proposed by various cultural institutions and events during the current pandemic. And the well-being of the Forum guests, who often come from all over Europe, Canada or Latin America, was a major concern.

“This modified formula will also make our event accessible to people who, due to the pandemic, had to cancel their participation or were afraid to go to Łódź,” said forum co-creator Paulina Zacharek of MOMAKIN. “Keeping ANIMARKT online will reduce the barriers between artists from different continents. In this context, the idea of connecting the markets of Western and Central and Eastern Europe is particularly important, as is the desire to establish closer relations between the Polish animation industry and Latin America, which is currently a of the fastest growing regions for puppets. animation production. "

Making the Forum work in its online version is a real organizational challenge for the ANIMARKT team - however, all elements of the program (workshop, business section and pitching) will be stored and transferred to the Internet, with their formulas adapted to online tools.

"The ANIMARKT Stop Motion forum means nearly 50 projects presented in the Pitching section in its 4 editions, 150 guests visiting the event every year or nearly 200 individual business meetings," said Agnieszka Kowalewska-Skowron, event organizer and manager programming.

The formal (and less formal) meetings of the Forum not only allow participants to learn how the stop-motion industry operates in various countries and regions, but above all they offer the opportunity to present their projects individually, develop their professional skills and start international cooperation.

One of the most important events of the Forum is the stop-motion short film pitching competition, where every year 15 projects from all over the world are presented (including Poland, Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania, Hungary, Slovakia, United Kingdom, Chile , Argentina or Canada).

Pitching offers the opportunity to present ideas in the development phase of the project in front of an audience consisting of producers, distributors and many others, and the chance to win, for example, a PLN 60.000 voucher to use a film production studio and facilities - an award funded by the Wroclaw Center for Audiovisual Technology (CeTA). Prior to presentations, the selected finalists participate in training sessions on presentation techniques and consult on their project scripts, production issues and stop-motion puppet making.

The finalists were recently announced.

“In each project I have sought harmony between form and content: if the story, the subject of the project correspond to the chosen stop motion technique? Will the film grab the viewer's attention with its unique visual approach to the story? Will it be something we've never seen before? ”Declared Anna Ida Orosz (co-founder, Primanima World Festival of First Animations), member of the selection committee of ANIMARKT Pitching 2020.“ The proposals included many very interesting projects. I hope that in the future the selected ones will be produced, which have particularly distinguished themselves “.
