For the latest entry in our series, which examines the coronavirus crisis from the perspective of the people in the industry, we spoke to Frank Falcone. He is president and creative director of Toronto's Guru Studio, which has produced numerous animated children's series, including one that is nominated for an Emmy. Guru is now starting production in Mecha builders, an HBO Max series that will present Sesame Street "robot animation style" characters.

Sesame Street It is a franchise with half a century of history. When Guru Studio collaborated with Sesame Workshop to produce Mecha builders, Frank Falcone's top priority was to immerse himself in that legacy, as Cartoon Brew relates.

“We had all kinds of plans to go to New York, visit the stages and workshops and generally be inspired by the physical accessories, puppets, sets and deep archives of the sesame workshop,” says Falcone. "But it all ended abruptly in early March." Under Ontario guidelines, the studio quickly moved to a completely remote setup, which it has stayed in ever since.
